Jay D. Lukowski

jayJay Lukowski was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, in the shadow of Yankee Stadium. He attended New York City Public Schools, and graduated from the University at Albany in Albany, New York with a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, majoring in Economics. From there he attended Fordham Law School at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, where he was a member of the prestigious Law Review and from which he graduated in the top 10{e877e77b3b1e39d5e2bee5eaabd28914f2f7a924f4f9a0bcf54ce8ac27ca48a7} of his class.

Jay practiced sophisticated business litigation with several New York City law firms. For the first two years of his career he was part of a team of five attorneys who worked exclusively on a huge contract dispute involving two publicly traded companies. While in New York he worked on a wide range of business related cases. The areas of law he worked on include antitrust, securities, intellectual property, including copyright and trademark, employment, corporate, bankruptcy, family disputes and business disputes. In this era of specialization, Jay is one of those few lawyers whose broad based knowledge allows him to counsel clients in many different legal arenas.

A life-long New York City resident, Jay and his family moved to Atlanta in 2001 because the company that Jay’s wife, Louise worked for in New Jersey decided to move its headquarters to Kennesaw, Georgia. Louise, who is also an attorney, works with the firm providing litigation and trial support, as well as managerial expertise. Jay and Louise live in Marietta. Their daughters, Aliza and Rebecca, went to high school in Cobb County. Aliza has obtained her BSW from the University of Vermont, and an MSW from Fordham University. Rebecca received a B.A. from Connecticut College with a double major in Hispanic Studies and Sociology, and an M.A. in International Education from New York University.

Jay was admitted to practice law in New York in 1978, and in New Jersey in 1988. Despite having been in practice for over 25 years, Jay was required to take the Georgia Bar exam, which ultimately proved to be fortuitous. While studying for the exam Jay met his future partner, Ron Kaplan. Ron is a physician who practiced as a general surgeon for 20 years in the Atlanta area, and who decided to shift over to the practice of law to represent individuals who had been injured by bad medicine. Ron and Jay realized that their skills and experience complimented each other perfectly for doing medical practice litigation on behalf of injured individuals. With Jay’s extensive background in complex litigation, and Ron’s working knowledge of medicine, they decided to team up and jointly handle medical malpractice cases representing people injured during the course of medical treatment. In early 2003 Jay and Ron started Kaplan & Lukowski, LLP in Sandy Springs where they continue to have their office. Although most of the cases they handle are in the Atlanta area, including Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Cobb Counties.
